Call the midwife when you are experiencing the following:
1. If this is your first baby, call when you have regular contractions, every 5-7 minutes, lasting 60 seconds for 2 hours. Time contractions from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next contraction. If you have had a baby before, you will call sooner. If having severe rectal pressure, call immediately.
2. Rupture of membranes (your water breaks) Put on a sanitary pad. If soaking through you should notify midwife.
Call immediately if the color of the fluid is brown or green.
3. Spotting or bloody show is normal in early labor. If you are bleeding more than a period, call the midwife.
4. DO NOT call the midwife if you lose your mucous plug. This is normal but is not a sign of imminent labor.
